Growing up in rural Holland, my childhood was spent on an orchard and tree nursery, and this influenced my career choice from an early age.
Having trained in Horticultural Science at the Agricultural University in Wageningen, the Netherlands, I travelled to the United States where I worked briefly before coming to New Zealand to take up a position teaching horticulture at a tertiary level.
After further study at Massey University, I shifted focus from production horticulture to landscape design and ornamental horticulture and have taught landscape design and general plant knowledge for more than ten years. My international experience, expert plant knowledge and landscape design skills allow me to combine creativity with the practical side of gardening.
"I believe that landscape design is the creation of a vision: the creative expression of something very personal and unique, something from within, something that touches you, challenges and surprises you. Landscape designs that 'work' enhance the strengths of a site, include plant selections that best suit the site conditions, and once installed, feel like home outside."
